Garrett's trained eye quickly reveals the mask's jewels to be fake. Upon further investigation, the fake is revealed to be part of a scam by Lyegrove Serendi. The mask was commissioned by Madam Xiao Xiao and Serendi had hoped to sell the fake, as he assumed the madam would not possess the skill necessary to tell the difference.
Meanwhile, Serendi hid away the original in his wall safe in the basement workshop of Serendi Jewellers, until he could escape the city and sell it to a wealthier client.
